AN ORIENTATION SESSION ON THE CO TRAINOR'S TRAINING PROGRAM

OBJECTIVES

At the end of the session, the trainor-on-training (TOT)'Wiil be able to:

1. get an orientation on the trainor's training program.
2. finalize the schedule for the training sessions and other training-related activities like the     monthly evaluation, the area visits, the theoretical discussions, etc.

METHODOLOGY

Various activities will be used In the session to achieve its obiectives. As a preparatory activity, the TOT will be requested to fill up a training needs form to assess his/her strengths and weaknesses.    This form will be validated by the trainers and will be used to determine which among the prepared modules will be given priority.  The TOT's expectations from the trainers will be surfaced and his/her understanding of his/her roles/functions is a trainor-in training will also be clarified.  Input on ttle trainor's training program will be provided to give ttle trainee an over-all view of the program.

Activity 1 - Preparatory Activity - Filling up a Training Needs Form

This activity is designed to give opportunity for the TOT to determine which knowledge, skills and attitudes need to be enhanced, sharpened or deepened.  This will also give the trainer a good picture on the strengths, and weaknesses of the TOT and to decide which among the preared modules be given priodty.  The training needs form filled up by the TOT can also be used as one of the basis for evaluation at the end of the training.

Directions

Please respond to the training needs form as honestly as you can.  A good explanation on the rating you gave yourself will be appreciated.  Your responses will help us determine which among the training modules will be given priority.  Submit this form three days before the scheduled training session to give your trainor. time to analyze your responses.

Activity 2 - Processing the Activity

The trainer then categorize the responses of the TOT; he/she puts in one column all those rated as excellent, another column those rated as good and on the last column all those rated as fair.  The trainor then validates 'these responses by getting feedback from the TOT's previous trainers; reviews documents/reports submitted by the TOT in her basic and advanced CO training and also review the TOT's monthly evaluation reports during her/his basic and advanced CO training

Activity 3 - Start Of The Actual Training Session

This is an exercise that uses the dialogical approach and this method is mostly used in the training.  The. trainer surfaces first the TOT's expectations from a trainer and his/her perceptions of his/her role as a trainee, before giving an input on the roles and functions of a trainor and the trainee. This approach also uses Alinski's method of starting from the level of the person involved, so as to make one's input relevant.

Directions

On a piece of paper, please answer the following questions:

a) What are your expectations from your trainer?
b) What do you see as his roles/functions?
c) What is your understanding of your roles/functions as trainor-in training?

Activity 4 - Processing The Activity

The trainer together with the TOT now compares what the TOT has written with those prepared by the trainors.  Similarities and differences will be pointed out and questions from the TOT will be clarified.

Activity 5 - Comparing The Results of The Training Needs Form Filled Up By The Tot and The Analysis Prepared by The Trainors and Finalizing The Schedules For The Training Sessions

This activity will compare the similarities and differences of the assessment made by the TOT with those of the trainers in terms of training needs.  This activity will ensure that the training needs expressed by the TOT and those seen by the trainers will be responded to adequately.

Directions

Pinpoint the similarities and differences in the assessment of training needs you made with those made by the trainors. Are you agree able to the assessment made by the trainors? Given this analysis, which of the modules be given priority? (schedules of the training sessions will then be finalized).

Activity 6 - Processing The Activity

The trainor together with the TOT validates the training needs.  Training modules will be scheduled based on the urgent need of the TOT.

INPUT

The trainer presents the six-month trainers' training program. There will be four modules,  namely: module 1 - training the trainers of organizers, module 2 - teaching the trainor-in training how to manage a CO Training program, module 3 - Training the trainer how to handle consultancy program and module 4 Developing Trainor's capacity to perform other CO-related functions.  Each module will consist of a series of sessions and the length of each training session will depend on the activities required to attain the objectives of the module.  The training program will use both classroom and on the job type of teaching instructions.  It will also use most of the time Freire's dialogical approach to education.  The objectives, content and process of each module will then be presented (please refer to attached training program).  Questions from the TOT will be entertained whenever he/she needs some clarifications.  Sequence of the training modules will be adjusted based on the needs of the TOT.

APPLICATION

The TOT will be requested to synthesize what transpired in the discussion and to make a clean copy of the finalized schedule of training sessions.
