CO Training Manual
Introduction
As the 1992 C.O.
On-the-Job Training was about to end, the CO Supervisors articulated the need
for a C.O. Training Manual that would serve as guide for Training Community
Organizers and Lead Persons in Antique.
At the same time, the Training Team had to prepare a brief summary of
the training as a part of the second quarter documentation. To respond to both, the Training Team agreed
to come up with a book that would embody a CO Training Manual and a brief
account of the CO on-the-job training.
The
task of preparing the draft of the book outlines was mine, afterwhich my
teammate. Gil
Boboy Gardiola and the
other members of the CO Training Team, Norma Javellana and Elizabeth Veñegas of
AFON critically reviewed and enriched.
I also prepared the
first draft of the book, drawing heavily from COPE's CO Training Materials
namely: COPE's Trainors' Training
Manual written by Fernando "Y" Yusingco, CO Training Manual written b Felipe
Maglaya and Organizing People for Power.
I also drew from Oscar Francisco's inputs during the study sessions and
C.O. seminar in Antique and from other references which are listed in the ANNEX
portion of this book.

Gil Gardiola's and my
own experiences in training and organizing that were shared throughout the 1992
CO on-the-job training are all here.
The inputs on socio-economic projects by Alice Murphy of COPE and Rose
Dimamay of PROCESS and the inputs on organizing around gender issues by Karina
David are included too.
The draft that I
prepared was critically reviewed by the CO Training Committee mentioned
above. The team of Editors was the same
committee plus Arnold Vandenbroek of ANIAD-PMO.
Arnold gave so much
time in pursuing the drafts. He helped
improve the logical arrangement of the topics and patiently suggested
improvements on phraseology from one draft to another. Aside from editing, portions of Part Two,
namely, The Antique Situation, Pointers for Socio-Economic Projects and
Pointers for organizing around gender issues were prepared for him.
The Kinaray-a
translation of the C.O. qualities was done by Nonong Egida of AFON and the
encoding on the computer from one draft to another draft was done by Mary Grace
Hilario, also Denis Murphy of COPE Foundation edited the third draft.
After the final draft,
all the other tasks in preparation for the printing of this book were Arnolds.
This book, as you see,
is a convergence of many people's efforts to make social change happen. With much hope then, motivated by our faith
in one anothers capacity to take risks and responsibilities, let us be
strong. May we, who use this book,
never stop dreaming.
