to be held in
Jakarta, Indonesia,
September, 2002
A
Regional Training
Trainers Workshop
on CO methods
of training
will be held
in Indonesia
in 2002. Entitled
Asia Community
Organization
Trainers Workshop,
it hopes
to develop a
new strategy
of Asian community
organization
with an emphasis
on globalization.
Prior to this,
each country
will conduct
its own workshop
to review and
evaluate their
training methods
and training
manuals and
documentation.
Each country
or group will
then report
on their output
during the regional
workshop. Persons
will be assigned
to go around
the Asian region
to gather information
and help the
documentation.
LOCOA afterwards
will make a
full report
on the workshop.
This regional
gathering of
community organizations
and other support
groups from
eight Asian
countries is
an appropriate
venue to celebrate
the gains of
community organizing,
assess its roles
in development,
and discuss
new issues and
challenges it
faces in this
era of globalization.

per country
(community trainers
and other support
groups), except
Indonesia which
will have 5
to 10 participants.
Background
The
LOCOA Board
of Trustees
held its regular
meeting on October
20-24, 2001
in Korea. The
meeting had
three purposes:
1) To bring
together community
organizers from
various traditions
to reflect collectively
on the lessons
of the last
30 years; 2)
to identify
strategies that
would enable
the organizers
to meet the
challenges of
the new century,
especially globalization
. 3) to
provide an opportunity
for community
organizers to
establish stronger
linkages and
foster regular
exchanges. In
the meeting,
members saw
the need for
a trainers workshop
on CO methodology.
LOCOA seeks
to enhance the
collective efforts
of its member
organizations
in knowledge
networking,
advocacy on
issues relevant
to Asian peoples,
and improving
the information
and communication
infrastructure
in the Asia
region for information
exchange.
